Warden Marcus Ryan is looking forward to the ROMA Conference in Toronto next week.
OXFORD - Oxford County Warden Marcus Ryan is excited about his new role.
He was recently appointed as the Chair of the Western Ontario Warden's Caucus for a one year term.
He says they advocate for the rural communities in Southwestern Ontario.
"We meet about six times a year and try to develop joint advocacy strategies. Then we go to the province, various ministers, the Premier, and federal ministers and tell them the things we need to work on better regardless of what level of government we are to deliver better for our communities."
Warden Ryan adds some of their priorities include infrastructure development, broadband, cellular infrastructure, housing affordability, and workforce development along with mental health, homelessness, and addictions.
Lots of politicians will be heading to Toronto over the next few days for the Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) Conference. It officially starts on Sunday and runs until Tuesday and Warden Marcus Ryan has some meetings planned.
"I have meetings with specific ministers to talk about issues around broadband in our rural areas because there are still people who are underserved by that. I'm also going to talk to other ministers about mental health, homelessness, addictions and other issues."
He's hoping to go with a small delegation of people, in order to promote more casual conversations with the ministers that could potentially lead to solutions.
During his interview with Dan and Marcie this morning, Warden Ryan also said the new green bin program was going well in Woodstock and South-West Oxford. He said change could be hard and there have been some growing pains, but the residents have been doing very well with the adjustment.
