They are picketing to bring attention to workplace harassment, bullying and fear tactics within the organization.
ST. THOMAS - Staff working at the Canadian Mental Health Association Elgin branch will hold an information picket outside their main branch in St. Thomas on Wednesday.
They are picketing to bring attention to workplace harassment within the organization, centreing around a work environment of fear and intimidation. OPSEU staff representative for CMHA Elgin and Oxford Carol Warner tells Heart FM a lot of the problems are caused by their upper management at CMHA Elgin.
"Bullying by managers, some managers, not all managers, they are dealing with an Executive Director who tends to absent herself from dealing with the issues when they arrive. She herself is responsible for some of the bullying, the fear and the intimidation. There is a history of managers engaging in that behaviour and continuing to do so, unchecked by that Executive Director."
Warner says this picket is focused on the CMHA Elgin operation, however they expect to see CMHA employees from Oxford County will come to show their support.
It's all happening tomorrow from 4:30 to 6:30 at the CMHA branch in St. Thomas and will feature OPSEU President Warren "Smokey" Thomas. In a Press release Thomas says these employees are faced with some really tough working conditions.
"The staff at the CMHA Elgin work with some of the most vulnerable members of the community, individuals who are suffering mental health crises. These workers are facing their own mental health crises as a result of a toxic workplace tainted by fear and intimidation. It’s time to stop workplace harassment at the CMHA Elgin."
