IndigiKnow will be wrapping up for 2023 next week. A graduation ceremony will take place for those that were involved.
INGERSOLL - The first year of IndigiKnow is about to come to an end.
The Indigenous Solidarity and Awareness Network for Oxford County ISAN has been offering the program through a partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oxford County this year, in order to educate youth about truth and reconciliation, as well as Indigenous culture.
The last session will be happening at the Big Brothers Big Sisters Ingersoll office on Monday November 20th from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. ISAN Director Patricia Marshal says graduation ceremony will be held for those who participated this year.
"We have some certificates to give to the youth who have been participating to who our appreciation for their participation. We also got some games and a little gift to send them away with."
The evening will also include music and a buffet meal for those who attend.
IndigiKnow is sponsored by Communities Building Youth Futures Oxford and Marshal says the program will return in 2024
"Our focus is going to be having more guest speakers come in to do more presentations and crafting with the youth. That way they can have more immersion into what Indigenous culture looks like, so that way they can build their empathy and understanding so they are never part perpetuating these issues that Indigenous people deal with."
You can visit the ISAN Facebook page for more information regarding the organization and the IndigiKnow program.
Patricia Marshall called the Heart FM studio on Tuesday November 14th to chat with Dan and Marcie. You can listen to the full interview below:
