The Oxford County Animal Rescue has some tips to make sure all pet owners have a happy holiday season.
OXFORD COUNTY - The Oxford County Animal Rescue has a few tips for pet owners this holiday season.
Foster Coordinator Anna Holmes says your dog or your cat might think your Christmas tree is a fun toy.
"Make sure your ornaments can't break and there's no chance anybody eating ribbon or string because those could turn into a bad situation. Even the water in your tree, it's not recommended that the animals drink it."
She is warning pet owners to be cautious with poinsettias and Christmas lilies as well because they're poisonous for our furry friends.
Dog owners would also be careful with chocolate. A dog can easily smell a box of chocolate that's wrapped under the tree and will have no problem unwrapping it for themselves.
Holmes would also like to remind everyone that a pet is a 20-year commitment, not a Christmas present.
"We'd love to see everybody home for Christmas, but we're not going to make any rash decisions. We're going to check all of the references and do all of the things that we would do in June."
