RCMP made an arrest Tuesday in relation to the Heartbleed bug attach on CRA site.
LONDON -- A 19 year-old London man is facing charges in connection with the recent breach of taxpayer data from the Canada Revenue Agency.
Stephen Arthuro Solis-Reyes was arrested by the RCMP at his home in London on Tuesday. His charges include unauthorized use of a computer and mischief in relation to data.
The CRA were forced to close down the publicly accessible website last Friday as the world found out about the Heartbleed computer bug, a previously undiscovered global Internet security vulnerability.
The service was shut down for five days and the agency announced on Monday they would extend the filing deadline for 2013 tax returns from April 30th to May 5th.
900 social insurance numbers were comprised during the security breach and the CRA say all of those affected will receive a registered letter. The loss was detected Friday but at the request of the Mounties, the agency delayed telling Canadians.
Police say the delay was requested so they could pursue their investigation through the weekend to track down the suspect.
Solis-Reyes is a computer science student at Western University where his father is also a professor.
