The third time wasn't a charm for Ernie Hardeman after all. With Dalton McGuinty's sudden resignation last night, and the prorogation of parliament, Hardeman's Bill to make Carbon Monoxide detectors mandatory has failed once again. "This is the 3rd time that it's died on the order paper. It was the top one on the list to be approved when the time came." That time would have been the beginning of December before the government broke for Christmas break. Hardeman says he's disappointed, but not defeated. If he gets a chance, he'll introduce the bill for a 4th time. The "Hawkins-Gignac Act", as it's called, is in memory of the late OPP Constable Laurie Hawkins and her family, who died of carbon monoxide poisoning in their Woodstock home in December 2008. The bill is designed to prevent similar tragedies.
