Gems and Java: Home Edition will be live streamed on Friday October 29th and all of the proceeds will be going to Mothers with a Heart for Ethiopia.
OXFORD COUNTY - It's the 10th anniversary for Gems and Java and the popular fundraiser will be going virtual once again.
It's going to be live streamed on Friday October 29th starting at 7:00 p.m. and all of the proceeds will be going to Mothers with a Heart for Ethiopia.
Founder and Chair Shelley Green says they're encouraging people to host their own Gems and Java parties this year.
"It can be very simple, just invite your friends, family, neighbours or coworkers into your home! A small group of people is actually better for this type of party because it can allow for better discussion after they watch the program."
Each host will receive their own host kit, which will include step-by-step instructions. It also includes a pre-recorded version of the Gems and Java program so you can host your party whenever you want. You can sign up for a Gems and Java Home Party host kit online here.
Green says Mothers with a Heart for Ethiopia is currently funding seven projects throughout Ethiopia including project Busajo.
"Children that have been living on the streets, they bring them into a shelter to provide them with everything they need including psychological care. They work with those children so they can go back and live with a family member who is able to take them in."
The volunteer organization also funds projects for education, athletic training for girls and pro-lapse uterus surgeries. They also fund a project called WRAPs which provides washable, reusable, affordable pads to women and girls. You can read more about Mothers with a Heart for Ethiopia's projects online here.
Green says even the smallest donation can make a difference.
"Sometimes people look at the needs of a country like Ethiopia and think how can I make any difference because there is so much need in that country. I tell people that we can not change the world but for the person, the child or woman that we're supporting through our donations, we can change their world."
