The Forum For Young Canadians program hopes to educate youth on the intricacies of Canadian government
OXFORD COUNTY - Youth from Oxford County interested in politics are being encouraged to apply for the 40th Forum For Young Canadians being held on Parliament Hill. The forum will recreate parliament for students, giving them a chance to understand how government works and the impact of politics in everyday life. The application is open to youth between the ages 15 to 19.
Mayor of East-Zorra Tavistock Don McKay is encouraging Oxford County youth to apply.
"The forum is a great opportunity for youth throughout the country to get a chance to go to Ottawa for a week, visit with other young people from across the country, and most importantly focus on an understanding of Canadian government."
McKay points out that young people are going to be the political leaders of the future.
"Well, we live in a great country, but that country is only great because of the government, democracy that we have."
"I think that if we want to keep it strong that it [the forum] is an opportunity for our young people to understand the history, understand how it works today, and how it impacts so many things in our lives."
Applications are now being accepted. Visit www.forum.ca for more information.
