The Salvation Army's Emergency Disaster Services will be hosting a training exercise in Southside Park tomorrow.
WOODSTOCK - Residents in the Friendly City are about to get a crash course in disaster training from the Salvation Army.
The organization's Emergency Disaster team will be running an exercise at Southside Park, geared at preparing civilians for real-world disasters. The event, going by the name Woodstock Wind, is part of a series of training sessions that the Salvation Army provides to municipalities in Ontario every year.
Emergency Disaster Services Specialist Treveor McLellan says the simulated disaster exercise is meant to prepare civilians for real-world events.
“We need to practice, and we need to make sure we’re good at what we need to do when a disaster strikes, we can’t just wait for a disaster to happen.”
McLellan adds that the simulated event includes a group of volunteers ready to help keep the community safe.
“There’s going to be a mock disaster in Woodstock, and the Salvation Army along with the London Search and Rescue and the Woodstock Sea Cadets are going to be acting in the role of responding to this disaster.”
The exercise is taking place at Southside Park at Sea Cadet Hall. Events are taking place all day, starting at 7:30 a.m., and running until 4:00 p.m.
The community is encouraged to drop in at any time during the day.
