Sixteen teams helped raise over $4,000 for MySafeWork during the Curl for Safety Charity Bonspiel on Saturday.
WOODSTOCK - Curl for Safety was a huge success this year raising over $4,000 for MySafeWork.
Sixteen teams competed on Saturday at the bonspiel hosted by Mazur Safety Inc. President Wes Mazur explains why he chose the not-for-profit charity My Safe Workplace.
"MySafeWork's story is, at the age of 18 a young man named David Ellis was killed in an industrial workplace accident he was given very limited training and no supervision. It was only his second day on the job and after his death his father Rob Ellis started MySafeWork which is the non profit organization and the registered charity. MySafeWork's mission is to prevent people from getting killed, injured, and harassed on the job and they're committed to creating a social movement against unsafe work through education and empowerment and at the same time they go around and they inspire companies to establish a very strong safety cultures through employee engagement."
Two members of Team Duncan, skip Hollie Duncan and Woodstock's own Rachelle Strybosch, were on hand to support the fundraiser as well. Mazur says they also helped out with the fundraising.
"We were able to raise a little extra money for the charity, both Rachelle and Hollie agreed that for a little cash donation, they would throw a rock for a player, or you could pay $20 and have them curl for your team for a whole end."
Two portraits of the Woodstock curling team were auctioned off at the event and donated back to the curling club.
