WOODSTOCK - Oxford County Council will discuss the possibility of turning Operation Sharing's The Inn overnight shelter into a 24-hour operation.
The Inn operates out of Old St. Paul's Anglican Church in Woodstock and it offers 25 beds for those who need a place to stay for the night. The shelter is available seven-days a week from 7:30 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. Those who stay the night also receive a warm meal and they have access to showers and laundry services as well.
During tonight's County Council meeting, council will look over a report which recommends turning the shelter into a 24/7 operation. Council would have to approve $95,000 from the Consolidated Homelessness Prevention Initiative (CHPI) and up to $180,000 from the County Affordable Housing Reserve in order to make this happen.
The report also recommends a new staff support role at the County's expense as well as overnight security services. You can read the full report online here.
The Inn recently underwent a major renovation and expansion, which would not have been possible without the County contributing $100,000 to make it happen. You can read more about that expansion online here.
