A County that performs and delivers results. That's one of the mantra's of Oxford County's new strategic plan. It was approved last night by Oxford County Council. It sets out some general guidelines for what the County's priorities should be moving forward. An implementation strategy will come forward in the weeks ahead. Recruiting and developing quality employees is one of the top priorities of the new Strategic Plan. As the Warden puts it -- "We're only as strong as our people". McKay says, "One of the plans that came to the top was employee development. I think as we look at all the things we can do in Oxford, we're not going to do them without an engaged staff. So hiring quality people, and then developing to their maximum." While the County is looking to hold onto quality employees, a report to council last night shows they're already doing a fine job of retaining employees. Oxford County's 2012 turnover rate was just over 5%. Other municipalities polled were all higher, ranging from 6-13%. Along with the new Strategic Plan, the County is also hatching a new "Charter of Expectations" for both councillors and staff. McKay says, "There's been a lot of negative coverage of politicians getting into trouble, or code of conduct, or conflict of interest. So I thought it was important for Oxford to have a Charter of Expectations for us as councillors and senior staff, in particular."
