Woodstock City Council toy with the idea of capping the fund to help reduce the tax levy
WOODSTOCK - Capping the Community Grant Fund was one of the options put forth to reduce the tax levy in the Woodstock Operations budget Tuesday evening. Woodstock Chief Administrative Officer David Creery points out capping the community grant funding will free up money for other projects.
"We have a current budget of roughly 143,000 available for the community grants program this year, so capping of the funds at say $120,000 level this would free up approximately 23,000 dollars to fund other areas such as the Southgate Centre."
The funding for the Community Grant Program stems from revenue generated by Ontario Lottery and Gaming slots. Over the past several years the community grant funding has fluctuated, in many occasions not fully being used.
Creery says there could be a number of reasons for this.
Applications for the community grants are currently being accepted.
