The City of Woodstock is finding ways to improve the sidewalk winter maintenance.
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock city council are looking into some the issues affecting Woodstock, including sidewalk winter maintenance.
The sidewalk winter maintenance was brought up during a council meeting on February 21st, but there is no solution at this time.
The council is looking through multiple solutions and Mayor Trevor Birtch says one of the options is to get city staff involved.
"Council received a report regarding the options on sidewalk snow clearing and we can remain status quo, we can also start to penalize homeowners or business owners that do not shovel their sidewalks after a winter event and another option is to continue to expand our human resources and equipment, and the city start to take over doing all of the sidewalks."
While council continues to explore all options before making a decision, Birtch adds the Snow Buddies program is available in the meantime for those who are unable to clear their sidewalk.
"I know when myself and others, when we've had the school closures, it is so nice to see the young people out there with shovels helping their neighbors and that's a program the city actually has on an official basis. You can be matched up with a young person that will help make sure your sidewalks are passable. So, in the meantime, everybody try and do their part to clear the snow in the neighbourhood, it helps improve the quality of life for everybody."
There will be more discussion during next week's revenue budget meetings, which will happen on February 26th and 28th.
