As people get together to celebrate New Year's Eve, Brant County OPP is reminding the public to be safe.
COUNTY OF BRANT - County of Brant OPP is asking everyone to keep safety in mind as they plan their New Year's Eve parties.
Home owners need to be aware and liable for anyone that gets injured on their property. Police are often called to investigate criminal reports of assault, drug and alcohol offences, sexual assaults, thefts, mischief and other related crimes stemming from unsupervised parties.
Police are also encouraging parents to speak with their children about attending such events and suggest other parties for them to go to.
For those who either attend or host one of these parties - be prepared for an increase in police presence as officers will be nearby conducting Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E) checkpoints in an effort to deter those from making the inexcusable decision to drive while impaired.
Everyone should enjoy New Year's Eve celebrations but it should be done in a responsible manner. Please make it a memorable night for all the right reasons versus making a poor decision that leads to an unforgettable tragedy.
Further Information and tips on how to host a safe New Year's Eve party can be found at www.madd.ca.
