Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oxford County is going to use $12,100 from the Canada Post Community Foundation to support its PRISM program for youth in the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
WOODSTOCK - Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oxford County has received $12,100 from the Canada Post Community Foundation.
The money will be going towards the PRISM program, a mentorship program for youth in the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. It's a one-on-one match program, which pairs a youth with an adult who has also had their own experience in the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
Executive Director Kristen Ralph says the mentor and the mentee will meet on a weekly basis for at least one year, and their relationship will be monitored by a professional caseworker.
"The match will build a developmental relationship that expresses care, challenges growth, provides support, shares power, and expands possibilities. The group programs within PRISM support young people to create connections and relationships with each other. Many young people who have this lived experience come from different schools, towns, and neighborhoods, making it difficult for them to connect with people who are going through similar experiences. PRISM brings youth together, not only to meet but to take part in various community activities, they may not otherwise have the opportunity to experience."

A total of 84 organizations received funding from the Canada Post Community Foundation this year, so they could enhance the lives of youth across the country.
