No construction activity at the site of a proposed BINGO parlour in Woodstock has left some locals wondering whether BINGO was truly going to make a comeback. But the President of SB Gaming Systems, Robert Dowd tells Heart FM it's just a delay in the start of renovations. He says they've been waiting on a leaky roof to be fixed, before starting with interior renovations. "You may or may not know that property is in pretty rough shape. We were waiting on the landlord, he had to do some roof work. There wasn't much sense in doing renovations if the roof was leaking." Dowd says the roof is being repaired, which means they can start transforming the former Home Hardware into a modern BINGO parlour and restaurant. "We're getting geared up and getting ready to move forward. You should see some activity there in the very near future." All of the needed licensing to run a BINGO gaming facility have been in place for a number of months. While Dowd wanted to have the facility open in April, he says it may not be ready until early 2014. He says "it would be a stretch" to have the facility open by Christmas. They've had some early success with a similar facility in Simcoe, where Dowd says they could always use more people in the seats, but says they receive lots of compliments on the "upscale" style of the facility. He believes the formula will work in Woodstock. "Other than going out to dinner, what's there to do for middle-aged people and over? You know, I'm sure there's other activities, don't get me wrong. But it's a good social outlet and can be a relatively inexpensive evening out."
