EMBRO - Thousands of people came out to enjoy the Embro Truck and Tractor Pull put on by the Oxford Junior Farmers.
Those in attendance were treated to a great time. Marinus Truer from Norwich placed first in the Max 10,5 Hot Farm 6+ MPH, William Koolmes also from Norwich placed 2nd, while Sam Sheldon from St. Mary's finished 3rd. In the Max 10.5 pull Brandon from 7 Hills Custom Work in Brownsville placed first followed by Geoff Van Wyk from Courtland.
Secretary and Volunteer Coordinator of the event Virginia Dibble tells Heart FM the Embro Tractor Pulls started 10 years ago.
"A couple of guys from the Embro community were sitting there and they were really into tractor pulling, and they thought Embro really needs a tractor pull, so they approached Junior Farmers, to see if Oxford Junior Farmers would be interested in helping out with the event because 5 guys can't run a tractor pull and we said you bet, so we have been involved since day 1.
The event was well attended and the crowds came from all across Ontario to take in the show. Dibble says some of the funds raised this weekend stays with the Junior Farmers but the majority of it is donated back into the community.
" Proceeds are actually kept by the Junior Farmers and then we distribute them to the community how we see fit, so for example we donate money to the local hospitals, we have donated $5,000 to each hospital in Oxford County and we have done different projects like helping to build children's playgrounds."
