Oxford Attack Under 17 girls get the silver last weekend in Brantford.
The Juvenile girls headed to Brantford for a tournament this past weekend. The girls were in tough with 2 of the 3 teams they were facing ranked #3 and 4 in Ontario.
First up in this sanctioned tournament was the host team, Brantford Briers. The game was close all the way with neither team able to pull away. A couple of key missed baskets and some forced turnovers prevented the Attack girls from getting the upset win. Brantford hit their foul shots in the fourth quarter to win by 10, by a final score of 53-43.
The Canadian Basketball Academy were next up for the Attack. A slow start made this game closer than it should have been. The girls stepped up their intensity as the game went on to defeat CBA 57-43
Sunday morning saw the U17's playing an aggressive, physical Scarborough Blues team. A tight defensive battle through out the game brought out the best game this year for the Attack girls. Outstanding communication helped the Juveniles force turnovers and 24 second shot clock violations. This stingy defense and an ever improving offense helped the girls to a slim lead. The girls held on to that lead and advance to the gold medal game with a 41-35 final score
The gold medal game was a tight one versus the Brantford Briers. In the second quarter the Briers changed to a stifling full court defense which caused turnovers that ended in points for Brantford. The Attack girls fought back but couldn't overcome the deficit. The loss was disappointing for the girls but they took solace in the silver medal. A goal of the team was to improve our play against heavily favoured teams. The girls did that and more.
Well done girls! Next up is the Hoopdome tournament in Toronto on the 22nd.
