New Director and Curator of the Woodstock Art Gallery assumes role August 2nd.
WOODSTOCK -- After an extensive recruitment process, the City of Woodstock has hired a New Art Gallery Curator.
Mary Reid will assume the role as Director and Curator of the Gallery August 2nd.
Originally from Ontario, Reid has a strong record of cultural service and currently serves as Director and Curator with the School of Art Gallery at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg.
Outgoing Curator Sheila Perry says she regrets having to leave Woodstock, but cited family as the reason behind her move to her home province of British Columbia.
Woodstock Mayor Pat Sobeski also acknowledged the contribution of Perry over the past year -- saying her work with the Woodstock Art Gallery has continued in helping to make great advances in updating programs, exhibits and policies.
During budget deliberations, City Council approved spending an additional $400,000 in funding, as requested by Perry to reconfigure the $5 million building with the condition that 50 percent would have to be fundraised within four years otherwise the gallery's operating budget would not increase.
Before applications for the Curator's post closed last month, Sobeski said there would be no need to worry how that money will be used.
