Applications Open for Youth Engagement Grants

The Communities Building Youth Futures Oxford County Initiative is now accepting applications for it's new Youth Engagement Grants.

OXFORD - The deadline to apply for Youth Engagement Grants through The Communities Building Youth Futures (CBYF) Oxford County Initiative is just over two weeks away.

The grants are a result of an extra $50,000 in funding, and the target that CBYF has set out is to improve high-school graduation rates and youth outcomes in the county.

The youth-led initiative will decide on how to distribute the funding in order to maximize youth support. Individuals can apply for grants under $5,000 while groups and organizations can apply for grants over $5,000. Individuals and organizations who do not typically serve youth may apply to this funding stream, though a youth-serving organization or group of youth would likely be favoured in the decision.

Jodie Konior, Project Coordinator for the Communities Building Youth Futures Initiative confirms that youth truly are taking charge of this initiative.

"Youth are the ones who are leading this initiative and this work that's being done and they're critical in identifying the criteria for these grants and what applications are going to be the ones that end up getting funded."

According to CBYF, special consideration will be given to projects that align with their five priority areas. They were selected based on feedback heard from needs and gaps for youth in our community. They include mental health and addictions, accessibility of information, rural challenges, youth futures and employment, and youth inclusion.

Applications are due October 28th at 11:59 p.m, and there will be a question and answer session on Thursday, October 20th from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. via Zoom for those wanting more information about the grants.
