Gerry Ritz makes financial investment in livestock genetics
WOODSTOCK - The Canadian Livestock Genetics Association is getting a boost thanks to the Federal Government.
Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz was at Canada's Outdoor Farm show Wednesday to announce $1.7 million for CLGA as part of the Growing Forward 2 initiative.
"CLGA will use the investment -- we'll make sure they do -- to open new export markets to develop key markets around the world for Canada's livestock genetics industries. The focus will be on dairy cattle, sheep and goats which of course last year generated over $120 million in exports."
"This investment will help CLGA grow that number through promotion, training and education to differentiate Canadian genetics from our competitors in some 45 key markets around the world. The goal is to increase the sale of dairy genetics by over 10 percent by 2015."
"The quality of Canadian livestock is unparalleled built on a proud history of producing top quality genetics. This support demonstrates our government's ongoing commitment to growing the livestock industry here in Ontario and throughout Canada."
The investment is comes as part of the Federal Government's Growing Forward 2 initiative.
