Woodstock City Council has decided to go with a phased-in approach for the Downtown Streetscape Master Plan.
WOODSTOCK - The Downtown Woodstock Streetscape Master Plan is moving forward.
During last night's meeting, City Council decided to go with a phased-in approach for the downtown revitalization project due to funding.
Mayor Jerry Acchione says the first phase will highlight the stretch of Dundas Street between Wellington Street and Riddell Street this year.
"Phase one is going to involve the changing of the sidewalks, putting new lights in, new garbage and recycling containers and looking at new benches and different things. It's kind of exciting to see the start of this project, and moving forward we can always adapt it to see what worked and what didn't."
Phase two of the project will tackle Riddell Street to Graham Street, and the work will finish between Graham Street and Brock Street in phase three.
Council agreed to set aside $2.7 million for the project during last night's meeting, and it will be financed by debenture. Four councillors voted in favour of this, while three voted against it.
Council considered three other options for executing the Downtown Streetscape Master Plan during last night's meeting. This included only replacing the sidewalks, executing the whole plan in 2024 and 2025, and delaying the project in general. You can read the full council report online here.
Woodstock City Council also approved the 2024 revenue budget during last night's meeting, and you can find more information online here.
