Thieves stole Irena's three-wheeled trike last month, but the Woodstock community rallied together to raise over $3,200 in order to buy her a new one.
WOODSTOCK - A disabled woman from Woodstock was devastated when someone stole her adult three-wheeled trike.
Woodstonians are very familiar with Irena and she could often be seen in the City on her three wheeler. It was taken by thieves from her home on Alice Street last month.
Community member Charles MacLean says that is what inspired him to start a GoFundMe.
"It is something she used to get around and she does volunteer a lot and as soon as I heard that somebody stole it, it broke my heart and I knew I had to do something."
The community managed to raise over $3,200. Irena was fitted with custom made electric assist trike on Saturday that will be ready for her to use this weekend. MacLean says the bike they were able to purchase is a serious upgrade and she is absolutely thrilled.
"Oh my goodness, she was so happy, and as soon as she found out it was an electric assist, I had trouble holding back tears, I mean my god, this woman was just so happy."
Irena was able to take the custom trike for a test drive on Saturday in the parking lot. It will be delivered to her door this weekend.
MacLean wanted to thank every single community member who donated to make this happen. He notes this is what the Friendly City is all about.
