Woodstock Aquatics Under the Microscope

The City of Woodstock will be taking a closer look at the aquatic facilities after a 26% increase in patrons.

WOODSTOCK - The City of Woodstock will be taking a closer look at their aquatics facilities over the next three years.

A Recreation Needs Study conducted in 2015 recommended the city modify the Southside Aquatics Centre and completely decommission the outdoor Lions Pool.

Director of Parks and Rec Brian Connors says the aquatics numbers have gone up over 26 percent since then, so now they need to take another look.

"What this report is doing is asking for three more years to look at the numbers before actually making some concrete steps to change the aquatic areas that might be needing to purchase, develop, or redevelop."

Connors says any work that would have to be done to Lions Pool would be very minimal and it would be due to aging.

"There's a very old filter system but that's a single system that if it did go we would need to ask for some funds but that would be absorbent. The piping is easily accessed which is great because if we had to dig up the deck that would cost a lot, but the piping is quite old and that could need some replacement - but the access piece is there. Right now we don't have any leaks! So that's a big plus."

The Lions Pool was built in 1946.
