County staff are doing their due diligence when it comes to the Woodingford Lodge facilities
OXFORD COUNTY -- More structural work is on the way for the Woodingford Lodge Facilities in the County.
Back in January, all 32 residents were evacuated from the Tillsonburg facility following flooding and damage to the sprinkler system.
Director of Public Works Rob Walton says when there were issues in Tillsonburg, it was decided that staff should be checking the sprinkler systems in Woodstock and Ingersoll to ensure the same issues wouldn't pop up at those locations.
"There are some sprinkler sloping deficiencies that we need to address, mostly in Ingersoll and a little in Woodstock, not quite so much. We did discover a few structural deficiencies and vapour barrier deficiencies that we would propose to upgrade over the summer."
Walton says this could mean slight inconveniences for some residents.
"There definitely could be some temporary moves but nothing where they would have to relocate a whole wing or anything like that but some individual, temporary relocations could have to happen but we certainly will work with the staff at Woodingford Lodge to minimize that as much as possible."
Walton says back when the facilities were constructed, they were not overseen by Public Works.
"It was overtaken by Social Services and Housing department and they relied on the experts that were on there, good or bad, and in this case didn't seem that good. We now have taken a different stance to those projects and have more of our own staff looking over the details both big and small and taking to minimize those issues."
Council approved the motion Wednesday night to spend an additional $58,000 from the County General Reserve be spent to complete structural works, vapour barrier installation and sprinkler system improvements to the three facilities.
