Woodingford Lodge's accessibility garden is one step closer to completion with a one thousand dollar donation from Meridian Credit Union. It's part of the long term care facility's $20,000 fundraising campaign which is 66 percent complete. The garden will feature cement walkways for residents in wheelchairs, a pergola as well as a variety of trees, bushes and perennials. Administrator Corrie Fransen says residents are very excited about the garden. "It's important because it's accessible for one thing and many of our residents have accessibility concerns and it is an area that residents can sit with their families and enjoy the outdoors, birds and nature and that's important to all of us." Fransen says the garden will be located on the south side of the building. "One of our staff members saw a need for it in an area that's kind of barren land and she worked to make this come to fruition and we looked for a lot of volunteers and a lot of donations." Woodstock Branch Manager for Meridian, Rory Campbell says they chose the to donate to the facility because they "have staff who have family members who are residents here as well as many of our members are residents here so we thought this was a great facility in the community to make a donation to." Fransen says they hope to have the garden complete by next spring.
