Environment Canada is predicting winds gusts between 70 and 80 kilometres per hour.
OXFORD - It's going to be quite windy out there today.
Environment Canada says we're in for northwesterly wind gusts between 70 and 80 kilometres per hour today. They should start this afternoon and continue through the evening, as a cold front passes through the area. They should start to diminish overnight. Warning Preparedness Meteorologist, Geoff Coulson, speaks to the length of time the strong winds could last.
"Actually, these gusty winds from the northwest could last right through the late afternoon and evening hours, finally starting to die down a bit after midnight. So, after midnight, the winds likely dropping back down to from the northwest at 20 kilometers an hour."
Strong winds can easily break tree branches and toss around loose objects, which could lead to power outages. Coulson mentions that when the strong winds are done, more systems will make their way through the County.
"Another cold front with that system on Friday sweeps through, so actually somewhat colder than normal temperatures expected for the weekend. Daytime high is only 5 or 6 degrees. And in fact, on Sunday, as another system moves through, we might even see some flurry activity mixing in with the showers."
Coulson adds that the cold weather lingers around and there could be more flurry activity off Lake Huron into Monday and Tuesday. A special weather statement has been issued for Oxford County.
