U-14's lose in London, U-13's win in Stratford
The Oxford Attack Under 14 Major Bantam Boys competitive basketball team dropped 3 games in a London tourney over the weekend and learned some valuable lessons along the way.
The Attack opened the tournament against the host London CYO and struggled with CYO’s physical style of play and aggressive press but managed to keep the game close and force overtime. The Attack missed some key free throws throughout the course of the game and dropped a close 52-49 decision. Brandon Cowan led the Attack with 19 points and 7 rebounds while Callaghan Bullen chipped in 9 points and 7 rebounds. Liam Dempsey continued his guard ball hawking style of defense and contributed 6 steals.
The Attack next faced the eventual tournament champion Orillia Lakers squad and were overmatched from the start losing 52-32. The Lakers had 4 skilled post players over 6 feet tall that the shorter Attack team could not handle. Quinten Quackebush-Schneider netted 9 points while Ben Jentz played his best thus far for the Attack this season and garnered 5 points.
The Attack finished the tournament on a down note losing to another aggressive Mississauga Wolverines squad 37-33. Team captains Cowan and Bullen led the Attack in losing effort with 12 and 7 points respectively.
The Attack returns to practice this week and must learn to respond to physical, aggressive teams and play with consistent energy, passion and confidence throughout their lineup.
Next up for the Attack are games in Stratford and St. Thomas next week.

The Oxford Attack U13 Bantam Boys basketball team are off to a good start with a team win over the Stratford Revolution club on Sunday afternoon. With many new players to competitive basketball, the Attack got an early lead and never let up, earning a convincing 45-23 victory.
The youngest boys Attack team has been practicing together since October, and it was time for a game to get a better measurement of competition readiness. The match against Stratford allowed coaches to gauge where the team is having success, and what needs work. Head Coach Jerry Beckett is pleased with the effort.
Leading on the score sheet was Ethan Roberts with 10 points, and Luke Leuszler with 8 . Justin Chisolm had 6 defensive rebounds. Tyler Rooke, Evan Roswell and James McKee all contributed with points, assists and composed play.
Next up for the Attack is more practice as they prepare for a London tournament in early January.
