The Wienerfest Home County Festival will take over the Burford Fairgrounds later this month.
BURFORD - Dachshunds, also known as wiener dogs, will be taking over the Burford Fairgrounds!
The Wienerfest Home County Festival will be taking place on Saturday June 21st and Sunday June 22nd. Organizer Linda Sonnenburg says this event is a homecoming for the people to attend every year.
"It's been 25 years that we've been doing this. People come back year after year with their new wiener dogs to show everyone. So it's a huge family picnic where anyone can come."
This means you don't need to own or bring a dachshund in order to come. Sonnenburg says other breeds of dogs are also welcome, even though she calls them "wiener wannabes".
Admission is free, but Sonnenburg says donations will be accepted.
"We actually raise funds for local rescues that don't have the funds. We look at all animals so Wayward Paws, The Woodstock Kitten Nursery & Rescue and the Salt cat rescue."
There will 145 vendors, food trucks, an agility course and K9 scent detection, in addition to popular events like the wiener races and bobbing for wieners.
Sonnenburg says a special event will be held at 4:00 p.m. on the Saturday, to honour one of their own.
"We have lost our little spokesdog Blue, but his legacy will live on. We're going to do a memorial and remembrance for all of the dogs that may have passed on to the rainbow bridge."
Wienerfest will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the Saturday and 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the Sunday.
They also still need volunteers and more information can be found on the Wienerfest website or Facebook page.
Linda Sonnenburg called the Heart FM studio to chat with Dan and Marcie on Tuesday June 3rd. You can listen to the full interview below:
