The Professional Women's Hockey League will move to 11 teams entering the 2026-27 season.
PWHL - The Professional Women's Hockey League will have three new teams when the 2026-27 season begins.
Detroit, Las Vegas, and Hamilton will join the league as expansion teams. PWHL Detroit was announced as the first expansion team back on May 6th, while PWHL Las Vegas and PWHL Hamilton were announced as new organizations today.
Detroit will play its home games at Little Caesars Arena, the home of the Detroit Red Wings. The arena has hosted PWHL Takeover games, with the first in 2024, drawing a crowd of 13,736. They have also hosted games on March 16, 2025, with an attendance of 14,288, and on March 28, 2026, a women's hockey game set a record attendance of 15,938. PWHL Detroit will have a colour scheme of black and silver as its primary colours, with white as a secondary colour, and red for an accent.
PWHL Las Vegas joins the league as the first team in the American Southwest, and will call T-Mobile Arena home. The organization has the full support of the Vegas Golden Knights of the National Hockey League, and since the Golden Knights joined the NHL in 2017, youth hockey participation has surged, driven by girls and women by 600%. When PWHL Las Vegas hits the ice, they will have uniforms with the colours green and gold.
Lastly, PWHL Hamilton comes into the league and will use TD Coliseum as their home base. The city hosted a 2026 PWHL Takeover game, where 16,012 fans came out to show their support for the league. PWHL Hamilton is paying tribute to the Hamilton Tiger Cats, a former NHL team in the Hamilton Tigers, and the city's nickname, Steeltown, with their colour scheme. Their jerseys will be gold, maroon, and cream.
