Welkin is continuing to support local children and families with online and over the phone services during the lockdown.
OXFORD COUNTY - It has been a very tough year for everyone in Oxford County, especially families.
Welkin has been providing support for families during the pandemic whether it's online, over the phone or even in person when Public Health measures allow.
Crisis and Urgent Therapist Rebecca McGlinchey has seen an increase in the number of concerns related to anxiety in kids.
"We're really encouraging them that what they're feeling is valid. When there's lots of stresses in their environment sometimes their feelings can get over looked so we're really focusing on supporting them so they know what they're feeling is okay, it make sense, and it's very valid."
McGlinchey says anxiety is quite common when there is a lack of consistency in a child's life. She adds the lockdown has been very tough on teenagers as well because the focus of their development is centred around their social life.
McGlinchey has also seen multiple cases of caregiver distress over the past few months.
"We're seeing a lot of parents struggling with caregiver distress right now. They're carrying lots of worries and stresses from their family to jobs and finances which of course impacts family life."
McGlinchey says the expectation for parents is so high right now and they need to know that they are doing enough.
