University Students Tour Oxford

Students at the University of Waterloo Masters of Economic Development course got a first hand look at Oxford County today.

Community Futures Oxford provided University of Waterloo Masters of Economic Development students a tour of the County today. 

The students got to see what the small business centre looked like, heard presentations from Oxford County Economic officers and they also toured local businesses. General Manager of Community Futures Oxford Allan Sim tells Heart FM what he hopes the students took away from the field trip. 

"What were doing in terms of Economic Development and some of the successes that we have had with some of our clients and projects and just to see how the County works with the municipalities in terms of economic development and what we can do in terms of helping entrepreneurs grow and succeed, it's about creating and maintaining jobs, to show them, literally how it's done, out in the field." 

Community Futures Oxford was recommended for the tour by Community Futures Ontario. Assistant Professor in the Development and Innovation Program at the University of Waterloo Heather Hall explains why they wanted to come to Oxford today. 

"They are here exploring business development, innovation, entrepreneurship. We are looking at various themes related to that in are course work right now and so they wanted to get a sense of what rural businesses, rural economic developers are working with on a daily basis, so we thought we would come out to Oxford County and show the students what's going on here." 

The students got a chance to visit the Fusion Youth Centre in Ingersoll, the Community Futures Oxford building, hear presentations from Oxford County Economic Officers and they were able to tour a couple of local businesses as well.
