Lacey Hird would like to be a voice for residents living in Oxford Centre.
NORWICH TOWNSHIP - Another contender has put their name forward for the Ward 4 council seat in Norwich Township.
Lacey Hird is a paralegal and she spent most of her life living in Norwich, before moving to Oxford Centre in 2023. Now she wants to be a voice for the residents in her hometown.
"I want peoples voices in Oxford Centre to be heard. I think we kind of get forgotten about in Oxford Centre sometimes and that ward and there's a lot of things that I think I can go great for the community."
If she's elected, Hird would like to address some of the visibility issues on the roadways and ensure financial transparency in the Township.
She would also like to have a generator installed at Oxford Centre Hall, adding Ward 4 is the only Ward in Norwich Township that does not have one for their emergency shelter. A tornado warning was issued while Oxford Centre was hosting the Norwich Township Canada Day celebration this year, so residents had to gather inside Oxford Centre Hall for safety. They were unable to use restrooms during that time because the power was out.
Hird also plans on listening to the residents and taking the time to truly understand their concerns before taking action on council.
"At the end of the day, you have to remember that council works for the residents that it represents. So I think it is very important to not just advocate for my beliefs or my wants, but what I am taking to the table for the residents of Ward 4 or the Norwich Township as a whole."
The municipal election is scheduled for October 26th.
