TVDSB Offers Supports for Virtual Learning

The Thames Valley District School Board has resources available to anyone struggling to access online learning.

Students return to virtual learning this morning. 

The Thames Valley District School Board has resources available to anyone struggling to access online learning. Superintendent of Student Achievement Sheila Builder says a lot of work has been going on behind the scenes.

"Staff have been working to support families, one of the number one priorities is to ensure those families who need tech for remote learning receive that." 

Builder says they have chrome books for anyone who needs them and they can also try to help with people who have connectivity issues.

"We don't want that to be a barrier for our families. In our tech deployment, we have included chrome books, I-pads and we also have internet enabled devices to eliminate that barrier for some families." 

If you have any issues accessing chrome books or the internet, contact your child's school and they can help you. 

Builder says they know this isn't ideal, but a lot of people are working hard to ensure students are not left behind.

"We know that the most important thing is for students to feel connected, to feel connected to their peers, to the staff, the teachers, the support staff in the classrooms and as best as we can do that in a virtual space, providing that live or synchronous opportunity." 

Builder says online learning looks different for every child and every family.

"Our staff have become very good at being flexible in meeting the needs of every child and every family, which is a daunting task, but we have been doing it and we are very proud of our staff, who make sure our students are the priority."
