Nature lovers will have a new path to walk once the ribbon is cut on the Oxford Thames River Trail and Observation Deck
BEACHVILLE - After two years of hard work the ribbon is about to be cut on the Oxford Thames River Trail and Observation Deck in Beachville.
Hikers and cyclists are invited to the ceremony at the parking lot and join in on a 2 km walk to the Observation deck. Past Chair of the Oxford County Trails Council Dixie Westcar says the trail runs between the two rail lines coming back towards Woodstock.
"It runs right along the Thames River and it is absolutely a fabulous little jewel; with the loops it is nearly 4 km long, it runs past the new Wetland Restoration Area and then up onto the bluff where there is an observation area looking out over the wetlands and the river."
Westcar says they received a Trillium Grant in 2014 for over $75,000 and have spent all of it on the trail. The ceremony starts at 11 a.m. on Friday morning at the trail parking lot located at the 45th Line and Queen Street East in Beachville.
"It's going to be a very casual affair with a few dignitaries and a vine cutting ribbon ceremony and it is a great day to get out and explore our new trail in Oxford County."
