Lynne DePlancke would like to stick around as the Ward 2 Councillor for Norwich Township.
NORWICH TOWNSHIP - A longstanding councillor for Norwich Township is running for re-election.
Lynne DePlancke was first elected to represent Ward 2 back in 2006. She launched an unsuccessful bid for Mayor during the 2022 municipal election, but was able to regain her former spot on council during a Ward 2 byelection the following year.
She says building the new Township office has been a big highlight of her political career so far.
"We did build it on budget which was great! There was no money debentured because we had the money in reserves. We also dedicated three acres of land around that building for soccer fields and I think that's been a big plus for the community."
She says each Ward in the township also has their own parks and fire departments, and that's something she's also proud of.
DePlancke says the next term of township council will continue paving some of the gravel roads and introduce some traffic calming measures in speed prone areas.
Outside of council chambers, DePlancke has operated her own hair salon out of her home for more than 45 years. She's also very active in the community as a member of the Norwich Chamber of Commerce, the Norwich BIA, the Police Services Board, the Oxford Community Foundation Board, and the Norwich Legion.
"I think being on several boards and being involved in the community has allowed me to build relationships, be a team player and a critical thinker."
The municipal election is scheduled for October 26th.
