Police are telling students that if you are approached by an unknown vehicle while walking, do not stop or engage in conversation. Two teen girls aged 14 and 15 years old, were approached by a suspicious male driving a white pick up truck while walking on Adelaide Street on Tuesday.
WOODSTOCK - With the return to school, Woodstock Police are encouraging parents to go over road safety and stranger safety with their children.
Police say two teen girls aged 14 and 15 years old, were approached by a suspicious male driving a white pick up truck while walking on Adelaide Street on Tuesday.
The male, described to be approximately 28 years old, slowed the truck and yelled out to the teens, asking if they wanted a ride.
The teens continued back to the area of Woodstock Collegiate Institute.
Police are telling students that if you are approached by an unknown vehicle while walking, do not stop or engage in conversation.
More tips to keep in mind for your safety while walking in the community:
- Stay far away from a vehicle if it slows down or stops near you while you are walking
- Walk in a populated, well lit area
- Do not stop to talk to anyone in the vehicle
- Yell for help and run away from the vehicle
- For children, to find an adult they trust such as a parent, teacher, principal, or call 911
- If possible, get a description of the vehicle and the persons, and licence plate if possible
- Immediately report the incident to police
