From now until March 25th, all CT scans at TDMH will be done inside a trailer outside the hospital, until a new state-of-the-art scanner arrives.
TILLSONBURG - Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital is going to have a new CT scanner.
Director of Clinical Services Meaghan Force says the state-of-the-art technology will replace the previous scanner that was purchased in 2009
"It's able to image at 128 slices, for comparison our current (scanner) is only 64 slices. That means the scans themselves will be quicker and higher quality. Faster exams impact the patient positively by reducing their time spent at the appointment. Faster exams will also allow for the hospital to plan for more exams in a day, which can reduce the wait times for patients in our region."
Starting this week, all scans will be taking place in a trailer outside the hospital with a temporary scanner, until the new scanner arrives in late February and is properly installed in the hospital. CT scans should resume inside the hospital on March 25th.
Nadia Facca, the President and CEO of TDMH and Alexandra Hospital in Ingersoll, says they were able to purchase the new scanner thanks to a $1.8 million donation.
"We are extremely grateful for the generous donation from Archie and Irene Verspeeten and family, which has allowed us to do this exciting project for our hospital and make sure our patients and their families have access to care close to home."
