Two events will be held in November that are part of the Local History Speaker Series.
OXFORD COUNTY - The Local History Speaker Series is returning to Oxford County.
Oxford County Library and Oxford County Archives present "Remembering our Heroes," featuring two special events. Digital Literacy and Local History Technician with the Tillsonburg Branch, Matthew Griffis, explains.
"The first will be from Scott Gillies. It's called Hometown Heroes. The second presentation will be from Dr. Jason Pankratz, and that's called Uncle Billy Went to War."
Griffis says in the Hometown Heroes presentation, Gillies will share stories from his extensive research into Oxford County residents who served during wartime. Focusing on men and women from the Ingersoll area who served in the First and Second World Wars. His presentation also offers a preview of his upcoming book, Hometown Heroes.
During the Uncle Billy Went to War presentation, Griffis says Dr. Pankratz will bring Billie’s previously untold story to life, tracing where he served, what he endured and his fate. People will be able to discover the remarkable life of "Uncle Billie" through letters he sent to family in Ontario during the First World War.
Griffis mentions how people can hear these presentations.
"Both presentations are going to be offered in person. If anyone would prefer to join via Zoom live stream, we ask that folks pre-register through the library's events calendar."
The Hometown Heroes event will take place at the Ingersoll Library on November 4th starting at 6 p.m., while Uncle Billie Went to War takes place on November 7th, getting underway at 2 p.m. at the Tillsonburg Library.
