Eligible Ontarians will receive a $200 cheque from the province.
ONTARIO - You might find an extra $200 in your bank account today.
The province has started issuing taxpayer rebates to help Ontarians deal with the federal carbon tax and the high interest rates.
Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy says lots of people are struggling to make ends meet.
"With Ontario families struggling due to the federal carbon tax, high interest rates and global economic uncertainty, our government is stepping up as part of our ongoing work to keep costs down and help families make ends meet. Our prudent fiscal management means our government is able to provide this critical support for families even as we continue to improve Ontario’s finances and invest in our world-class public services."
To qualify for the taxpayer rebate, you have to be an Ontario resident over the age of 18 and you had to live in the province on December 31st, 2023. You won't be eligible if you were bankrupt or incarcerated in 2024 or if you didn't file your 2023 Income Tax and Benefits Return last year.

Families who receive the Canada Child Benefit will also get an extra $200 for each child.
