Targets are Being Met by Oxford Ambulances

The response times of ambulances in Oxford County are once again being discussed by Oxford County Council.

OXFORD COUNTY - The annual ambulance response time report has been presented to Oxford County Council.

In the report, it stated Oxford County paramedics responded to over 21-thousand emergency calls last year. Warden, Marcus Ryan speaks to what exactly the report came out with.

"It was kind of a mixed report. I think people that read it will see at first, our ambulances are meeting all the response time targets that we set, and they are. That is a good news story, it means right now if someone calls an ambulance in Oxford, it is going to respond in an appropriate time."

Ryan says the second part to that report is the increase of 10 percent from 2022, and the increase of 43.5 percent since 2020. Warden Ryan says response times were slower last year, but still within the target.

"There's a lot of factors going on here that while we are meeting the targets now means we are going to have to invest more if we want to continue meeting the targets. If they are going to keep going up at this rate of 10 percent last year, 43 percent over the last four years, it is not a sustainable thing if we want to keep having good ambulance response times."

Warden Ryan says the Council sets the response time targets and will get information from the paramedic staff to determine what is needed to meet the targets.
