The county may have possible economic and tourism opportunities with Taiwan. Canadian Taiwanese travelled to Oxford from Toronto to learn more about the county. Their interest comes from the the ancestry of Dr. George Leslie Mackay. Dr. Mackay was instrumental with his missionary service over in Taiwan back in the 1800s. Director of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Toronto, Winston Wen-yi Chen was grateful for the invitation. "We are so deeply impressed by your dear friendship. We will act to reciprocate so as to enhance our partnership with Canada, particularly Oxford County," said Chen, "I'm very grateful that you continue Dr. Mackay's [contributions] towards my country and that you make such endeavours to strengthen the relationship with us, just as Dr. Mackay did more than 140 years ago for Taiwan." After making a presentation to County Council, the group went on a county-wide tour. Their visit was meant to strengthen the ties Oxford has with Taiwan.
