The Plattsville Skating Club is hosting the 2024 Skate Ontario Synchro Series 1 at the Woodstock Community Complex this weekend.
WOODSTOCK - It's going to be a busy weekend at the Woodstock Community Complex.
The Plattsville Skating Club is hosting the 2024 Skate Ontario Synchro Series 1. About 125 synchronized skating teams from across Ontario, Quebec and Alberta will be competing in the competition over the next three days.
Local Organizing Chair Cindy Brick says there will be about 1,200 athletes ranging from Star 4 to the Senior level.
"Our youngest skaters I imagine are probably eight or nine years old and they will be competing on Sunday. We have our highest world level teams competing tonight and tomorrow."
This includes Les Supremes from Quebec, the team that won the World Championship last year.
Brick says this competition is a big deal for the teams.
"We use this competition for the teams to start accumulating points to qualify for the Provincial Championship and the higher level teams are competing to get points to qualify for Nationals."
The daily admission for spectators is $10 per person or $5 for kids between the ages of four and 12. Kids under four years old will get in for free and only cash will be accepted.
Brick expects there will be about 2,000 to 3,000 spectators this weekend. Overflow parking will be available at St. Mary's Catholic High School if need be.
