OXFORD/ELGIN/MIDDLESEX - Make sure you bundle up this Family Day weekend.
Southwestern Public Health has issued a cold weather alert due to the colder temperatures we're experiencing this morning. Environment Canada is also predicting lows around minus 12 and minus 21 with the wind chill on the holiday Monday and continuing until mid-week.
The health unit says you should take extra precautions to protect yourself from frostbite and hypothermia. This includes staying inside as much as possible, but if you have to go outdoors make sure you dress in warm layers, cover up all exposed skin, and avoid strenuous exercise. You should also avoid drinking caffeinated or alcoholic drinks because they can make your body lose heat more quickly.
