Southwestern Public Health is only administering adult doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine to people between the ages of 12 and 29. Adults over the age of 30 will get the Moderna vaccine.
SWPH - Southwestern Public Health is experiencing a shortage of adult doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine.
Starting this week, the Health Unit will save whatever doses they have for people between the ages of 12 and 29 getting their first, second or third shots. Everyone else will get Moderna. The Pfizer and Moderna shots are both classified as mRNA vaccines, so they can be safely mixed and matched.
Southwestern Public Health still has lots of pediatric doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, so kids between the ages of 5 and 11 will not be affected by this shortage.
People living in the Southwestern Public Health region can book their COVID-19 vaccination appointment online here.
