Oxford County wants to be seen as a leader when it comes to sustainability.
Oxford County council has approved a motion to create a sustainability cluster.
This will link everything the County is doing when it comes to the sustainability projects in Oxford on the energy front, youth entrepreneur and social innovation desires.
CAO Peter Crockett tells Heart FM they want to make Oxford the place to go when it comes to sustainability.
"Actually it is a hub and the vernacular is, the cluster is the high level grouping and then you have hubs and centres of excellence as part of that cluster. What we are trying to do by raising the opportunity of a sustainability cluster is raise the focus of Oxford is the place to go to look and see and see demonstrations of and real actions of what can happen on broad community sustainability, whether it be community environment or economic pillars of our community."
He says they will use vacant space at Court House Square for the Sustainability Cluster. Crockett talks about one of the partners they will have with the cluster.
"One of the possible partners that has approached us is CUTRIC and CUTRIC is the Canadian Urban Transit Research and Innovation Consortium and what they are looking to do is have a group of technical staff, some research and PHD students centred out of a research hub that our working with industries and universities around the Province. The reason they approached us from an Oxford stand point is because we are central to much of that. So when they align that with what we are trying to do as a community perspective, really what it boils down to is it a great fit form a geography standpoint, it's a great fit from where all the partners are and it is a great fit for what we are trying to achieve as a community. Over and above that are things like a shared workplace for young entrepreneurs and social innovators."
