United Way Oxford's GenNext committee invites the public out for a good cause.
WOODSTOCK - United Way Oxford is giving people a chance to network in the community.
The event is called Tampon Tuesday and it is a unique collection drive for feminine hygiene products, organized by United Way Oxford's GenNext committee.
Resource Development and Data Coordinator for United Way Oxford and Staff Lead for GenNext committee, Brittany Taylor says the event is supporting a good cause.
"Tampon Tuesday is a national event, so we just hold it within Oxford to collect feminine hygiene products to donate back to local women. We found that those are very commonly overlooked when people are donating items or food to food banks or shelters and they're absolutely a necessity for every woman over a certain age, and they're very expensive. And again, living in crisis and limited income, those supplies, they're needed but unaffordable."
Taylor says it's a great event to attend.
"It's a great way to give back in new and diverse ways, and that's what GenNext is all about, but it's a fun way to get together with a different group of women and men and it's something that you can do very easily without committing a lot of time or resources."
Tampon Tuesday started in London in 2009 and events are held across Canada to help local women in need when it comes to feminine hygiene products.
The event is free to attend. Taylor says they encourage people to bring a feminine hygiene product to the event. The products will be donated to local women in the community.
It will be at Kelseys Original Roadhouse in Woodstock on March 5th. It goes from 5:00pm-7:00pm.
