Union Gas employee Jon Marsh was given Spectra Energy's highest honour the Summit award.
WOODSTOCK - A Woodstock woman has a Union Gas employee to thank for his quick thinking that possibly saved her life.
The utility service representative with Union Gas was out on the job this past summer when he smelt a suspicious gas.
The representative Jon Marsh found a gas leak that could have been carbon monoxide and then evacuated the Woodstock woman from her trailer. As a result Jon Marsh has been recognized by Spectra Energy at the annual Summit awards. "The company recognized Jon Marsh for the action that he took in helping to protect a resident of Woodstock from potential carbon monoxide poisoning," said Andrea Stass, Union Gas spokeswoman.
The yearly Summit awards were handed out at a dinner held in Houston. Stass adds the awards are issued to employees who demonstrate commendable actions. "That's established (Summit awards) to recognize extraordinary individuals who have gone above and beyond the call of duty and that's certainly what Jon did in this case he was there, he took action and his words 'you don't just walk away,'...he helped to avoid a potentially dangerous situation and for that he's being recognized."
Marsh was presented with $1000 to donate to the charity of his choice. Instead he chose to split the funds between the Woodstock Fire Department and Sarnia Fire and Rescue.
