The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority is asking everyone to cautious near the waterways this weekend.
OXFORD COUNTY - The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority is asking everyone to cautious near the waterways this weekend.
They recommend staying off all frozen water bodies as we anticipate 5-10 mm of rain, with warm daytime temperatures. A return to cooler temperatures is forecast for next week.
The combination of warming temperatures and a small amount of rain may result in some snowmelt and runoff into local watercourses, but the UTRCA does not expect flooding at this time. UTRCA Manager of Community & Corporate Services Teresa Hollingsworth says the water is very dangerous right now.
"We remind everyone that rivers, streams, ditches, and ponds will be hazardous. Parents are encouraged to keep children and pets away from all watercourses and off of frozen water bodies."
Banks adjacent to rivers and creeks are very slippery and, when combined with cold, fast-moving water, pose a serious hazard. Any ice cover will be weakened and unstable, and flood control reservoirs will be especially hazardous due to fluctuating water levels.
